1838 he travelled to Egypt with Prince Maximillian
of Bavaria. He produced a number of lithographs
for a folio entitled "Genre Bilder Gesammelt
auf der Orientalischen Reise". Von Mayr made
a study of the customs, habits, clothes, architecture
and designs of the "Orient". Among the
most interesting studies were comparisons of a number
of objects on one page and studies of horses.
