Art in the Middle East and the
Muslim world pre-dates all of Western European art by many
centuries and is characterised by its richness and diversity.
For many Europeans, Oriental Art first came to their attention
in the nineteenth century when the Arabian Peninsula became
part of the Grand Tour. Artists like David Roberts, Emile
Prisse, Owen Carter and Jean-Leon Gerome exquisitely captured
vibrant scenes of Arab life on their frequent visits to
Palestine, Egypt and Arabia.
But throughout the centuries, Arabic
artists have developed their own distinctive styles which
have appealed not only to their own people but increasingly
to a wider audience in the West.
Dale Egee has travelled extensively
throughout the Middle East over the past twenty five years
and has learned to appreciate the finer details of Arabic
and Muslim art. She has met many of the contemporary artists,
both Arab and Western, and has established firm friendships
based on trust and mutual respect. In return, they have
now entrusted her with the rights to reproduce their best
works in limited edition prints.
